Second Season development is focused on the team and putting all the pieces (developed in the Fall) together to produce a harmonious team that plays to or exceeds its potential. Development will be on fine-tuning pattern plays, set pieces and functional training. Functional training is training situations taken from the game itself (game patterns for the "right outside back", "central striker" receiving ball with his back to the goal, "framing the goal" from different game situations....).
Spring is stressful due to tournaments (including state, regional...) and tryouts so the player needs to keep having fun whether the coach includes fun game days or if the player participates in "street soccer" or similar settings. Balance all the headaches of competitive soccer with the excitement and enjoyment for that the game was intended!
Strength and endurance training should be little or just maintenance.
